Any hints at future in-store content? I'm seriously glad ANet listened to the pleas of us when we asked for PvP Skill Unlocks

You answered yourself in your own complaint. Your 230k Balth faction represents your amount of experience and time put into getting those skills and trying them out. Now for the people who buy them, you're absolutely right, they won't know how to use them... until they put in the time and experience you have put in. Your time and experience is therefore not 'down the drain.' It all works out.

What I am most afraid of is Skill Add ons for sale online... HYPOTHETICAL EXAMPLE
"New skills available $9.99. You can now buy new skills for your PVP char. This includes 2 new elites and 8 new skills for each class... But dont worry you can still unlock them too.."

Please refer to the first 8 pages of this post for more information on why you shouldn't have posted out of the blue here before reading the first 8 pages.
Unless you have a counter to one or more of the arguements made in favor of this addition, there is no reason to post, because there have already been at least 20 posts just like yours.

There are already "so many people" who already have "all these skills". It won't affect the game very much at all; it will only affect the newcomers to the game, and those with not enough time to play the game for extended periods of time. This is a game for both hardcore AND casual gamers. These skill purchases are just one more way to keep the playing field level for casual gamers.

i think its a great offer, you see, they offer only 4 classes at 9.99 dollars each, now you see, who would be an idiot and unlock all the skills of only 4 classes when you could unlock them all with 40 dollars, or the same price as only the 4 classes offered, i think anet did a good job with this

I think PVP-only players should have all skills unlocked, and Factions should have all skills from Factions and Prophs, and Nightfall should have all the skills from all 3 games unlocked in PVP only.
Extra char slots, I agree with.
Extra storage space, I agree with.
But now you are selling pieces of the game on line.

Ok..first of all IF "IF" they put the time and effort in, like the rest of us pvpers, they Would have the amount of faction To unlock the skills instead of buying them. As to my comment "down the drain" what i mean is i put the effort and time into getting faction and unlocking those skills(lets say 1 year) when they can take out a credit card and get those skills in 10 minutes.
thats what i was trying to say.

For some reason why do i get the feeling well see the ablility to buy rank though the store in the furture..
To me this is almost the same as buying gold but if said person wants to buy an unlock skill pack that is there own choice.

Looks like you've got a pretty bad case of Slippery Slope Syndrome there, eh?
The point is that they can't buy rank. They can't buy 2 years of experience with the game. Buying the skills unlocks is only a small piece of what it takes to be successful.
Yes, now newcomers can buy the skills, but they can't buy all the PvE characters and gold we've accumulated, can't buy rank, can't buy mental experience, and can't buy the connections with other players that we have because we've been playing so long.
Letting newcomers buy skill unlocks is just a small nudge in the right direction to prevent them from getting overwhelmed. It's really not going to affect you at all.

Very nice. I hope the calculations are right, because to me 40$ seem to be a bit too much for a casual pvp player.
It is nice to see Anet cares about this longtime request. (Btw, I saw 2 things today who were directly adressed in the last WoCs, Izzy listens carefully...)

What about that nice set of FoW you just bought yourself? Represents grind. That sweet crystaline you finally saved up for? Represents grind.
Considering the ridiculous price of these unlocks, I wouldn't be suprised if ANet starts selling these things. And hey, their still sticking to their policy because the game would still be balanced.
|
Although ArenaNet will be making some money off of this new addition, I seriously doubt that's what they had in mind. They will never sell "sweet crystaline" swords or a "nice set of FoW" over the Guild Wars Store; that would mess up GW's Economy. No one would have a reason to go to UW of FoW.
The thing they did with the skill packs will last forever; it will always be useful to a PvP inclined player. PvP inclined players don't want to spend time on their PvE characters unlocking skills and farming enough money to buy them. Especially when Nightfall comes out... that will be three chapters worth of skills to unlock. Hopefully, this will reduce the amount of teams who all play the same build in Heroe's Alliance, aka ViMWAY, Blood Spike, etc. etc.
And to you people complaining about how many months it took you to unlock all the skills yourself, obviously ArenaNet wants to save new players (and veterans) that much time so they can get more competition in the PvP field. More people will experiment with different builds now that it won't cost them all that extra time to get skills for a build they're not sure about but want to try. If you've unlocked the skills yourself, that should be your own accomplishment; no one else is going to know how much time you put into this anyways.
This way, you can save a huge chunk of time for a fee, but you don't have to pay it if you don't want. So many people have been asking for this, and now that it's out they complain.
Thank you ArenaNet.

Gaile, are we going to see flames of balthazar (faction) implemented permanently someday?

Why has ANET changed Philosphy?
I dont get it. Prophecies prided itself on being an on line game where you didnt have to Grind and you didnt have pay extra to play. We all bought Factions when it came out (Id say most of us did).
I admit we dont have to pay a monthly fee, but now we are being asked to spend extra here and extra there. I really dont see how this is any different in philosphy.
PVP only skills should COME ALREADY AVAILABLE and not requiring us or asking us to spend more money or buy previous games to use them. I do agree that we should have to buy the new skills that come with a new game, but not have to buy retroactively. Its called an expansion. To me this is like buying a deck of cards and ordering your 4 aces on line.
Why the change in Philosphy Anet?

Actually, we made an error. We had a bug in the store system and for a short time we were not able to offer the Monk and Necromancer packs. That has been corrected, and all six packs are now on offer.

you don't have to buy the skills, every game is stand alone. Many people would just rather unlock the skills that want, now they can just unlock the ones in the past, so they can spend their faction for the future. Isn't that what gaile mentioned, i mean heck, she said they wouldn't release pvp faction skills for a good while, by the time they do probably chapter 4 will almost be here is my guess.

So, let me get this straight, you all are jealous because new players will be able to compete with you on a level playing field? Because that's all this does. You can't even see if someone is UAS or not, so it's not like they're taking away your badge of honor.
